Why I Listen to Music

30 Nov

“All day and night, music,

a quiet, bright

reedsong. If it fades,

we fade.” -Rumi

John Butler’s “Searching for Heritage” is a capturing track, with an incredibly mesmerizing video of his live performance. Similar to what was noted in the post about Dave Matthews and Tim Reynolds (One of the Best Live Recordings), Butler’s toe tapping, guitar strumming, and facial expressions exemplify a true musician and remind me once again why I need a soundtrack to my life. I’m leaving this one uncategorized because it is just that.

Enjoy.

Reading Rainbow

30 Nov

The band, Reading Rainbow, caught my eye for obvious reasons: gotta love classic PBS shows. Check out “Wasting Time”. Just as I will never forget Levar Burton reading picture books on television, this song continues to get stuck in my head.

Derezzed (Cassettes Won’t Listen Remix)

28 Nov

This Cassette’s Won’t Listen remix of Daft Punk’s “Derezzed” is in the trailer for the new movie, Tron. But this track doesn’t need the status of being in a film–its catchy, evolving sound makes this 5 minutes of solid listening pleasure.

Beach Fossils “Sometimes”

18 Nov

Often compared to West Coast and Surfer Blood, Beach Fossils delivers a tune with haunting vocals and surf music guitar riffs. Maybe this song is inappropriate for November, and would be best for a long drive to the beach in the summer, but the lyrics “Well let’s go home” are fitting for the impending Thanksgiving weekend. And who says you can’t go to the beach in the winter?
