James Yuill

22 Jun

Thanks to a good friend of mine, I was introduced to James Yuill, a British musician. His innovation is shown in the Guinness commercial below:

Now, listen to two of his tracks, “This Sweet Love (Prins Thomas Sneaky Edit)” and “No Surprise”. Can’t put my finger on the words to describe his music, but perhaps electronic-folksy-ambient-eclectic will do the job. Enjoy.

P.S. I bought the Bon Iver album, as aforementioned, and it is beyond amazing. I’ve been blasting it all day.

New Life (Perseus ‘Summer of 83’ Remix)

16 Jun

Jeremy Glenn released his single “New Life” recently, and the full album comes out on June 20th. Perseus, from Dallas, TX, put together this remix. Retro beats and a summer vibe make this piece catchy, to say the least. Enjoy!

Laundry Music: Deadmau5

14 Jun

I was folding my laundry this morning when this began playing. So if the summer weather is crummy outside, like it is here, and you’re stuck doing laundry, like me, put on Deadmau5’s “Aural Psynapse (StrobeHypnoticz Remix)”.

Bon Iver “Bon Iver”

10 Jun

In a world of remixes, excitement, chaos, dubstep, and complicated music technologies, it’s nice to hear calmness every once in a while. Bon Iver has seemingly mastered the art of zen in his music; every time I listen, I am transported. And I don’t mean this in a cliché, melodramatic fashion. I mean this sincerely. His music is magic, and while most of his songs are hard to individualize, listening to his music reminds me that sometimes simple is better. Sometimes pure, honest sound is what I need to hear. Bon Iver’s self-titled album arrives June 21, 2011, and you can be sure that I will be pre-ordering this one. And yes, I’m actually buying this music, not just finding it for free online. It’s that good. For now, stream the album on NPR by following the link below.
