Tycho

18 Sep

Lo-fi ambience with a happy tempo. This is a single from his upcoming album Dive. Tycho is the music alias of Scott Hansen, a San Franciscan producer with a talent for art that hipsters can only dream of. He operates a blog called ISO50 (ohemgee, so hip). Also check out the Teen Daze Remix.

I’m not a country fan, but…

13 Sep

A taste of America while I’m on other side of the world: Pretty Lights remixes John Denver’s “Country Roads”. In introduction is in order: Ravers, meet 70’s folk music. Country hippies- meet electronic music.

A Song about Frogs (but not really)

9 Sep

I love M83 and its odd, distinct, mesmerizing music. I wasn’t totally surprised when I heard “Raconte-Moi Une Histoire” which begins with a girl speaking about frogs.

I heard about this frog. It’s a very tiny frog. But it’s also very special. You can only find it in the jungle, so far away from you, but if you find it and you catch it, your world will change forever.

The narration continues about the world, and cupcakes, and your mom becoming your dad. I do not even want to begin analyzing this. Just go along for the ride, as you should with any M83 song. The song may not change the world forever, as the frogs supposedly will, but this song is certainly hypnotizing enough that I will keep listening.

2 for 1 Tuesday

5 Sep

In the unlikely case you like one, you’ll likely like the other. What both of these producers have in common is that they have made some freakishly inconsistent stuff, though consistently experimental. The Noise-rock band HEALTH does a cover of a song from the sample-happy Pictureplane, and Blood Diamonds depart from their tropical flavor in “Heart” towards a soundscape by the likes of  M83/Animal Collective… hmm…

The question is, do you really need 2 songs, or is this a marketing scheme to convince you that NEED 2, when only 1 is sufficient. But the fact that the songs are free makes this irrelevant, and it is in fact merely a choice to download not just 1, but 2 songs. Now, faced with 2 choices as opposed to 1, you are more likely to download neither according to the paradox of choice theory. So no, this is not a marketing scheme, and no I will probably not do another 2 for 1 next Tuesday, or ever again.

Naked and Famous

1 Sep

You should have already heard of this group. These New Zealander’s came out hits like “Young Blood” and “Punching in a Dream” I posted over a year ago with their debut album. Here’s another song I didn’t catch on to until just now, its the last one on the album. See them at Park Life next month in Sydney.
