White Ring

30 Jan

Just discovered the genre of witch house, which is like a darker, slower, noisy version of Crystal Castles marked by upside down crosses and satanic references. I don’t think its as serious as it seems, some artists say its just a joke. Sick bass and totally badass.

Whitley

26 Jan

I go to school in upstate New York. There is a farm with five cows visible from my home. There’s some snow, some hills, and no ocean. People are playing guitars and ukuleles in my house constantly. It’s no wonder I’ve been on a folk music craze. Whitley’s “More Than Life” has a title that sounds like a Backstreet Boy song but has a style that is completely different (kind of like Miami to upstate New York). It’s considerably poppy, but more it’s just chill guitar indie shit. In fact, this isn’t even folksy. I’m sparing you from the real gritty folk stuff I’ve been listening to lately.

Since Foster the People isn’t cool anymore…

26 Jan

Since Foster The People isn’t cool anymore, and MGMT is sooo last decade, SWIM DEEP has filled the void with this glittery single. Fuck ya.

Knife Party

24 Jan

I got back to school in Miami last week and the first artist I heard on the car ride from the airport was Knife Party. This song was featured in the trailer for the new movie Red Tails… Hollywood using dubstep could be  a new trend.

Project 46

13 Jan

This candian duo say they know Tim Berg personally and are aware that it sounds like a rip-off of Levels. They said it was just for fun and are giving it away for free.

Kap Slap 1/12/11 @ The Middle East

13 Jan

The ceiling was dripping wet with condensation and the floor was riddled with kids barely out of high school. You can’t expect anything else when you’re going to “Throwed” events, however, it’s very appropriate considering that Kap Slap probably started out playing for frat parties. Really fun show, Jared had a awesome stage presence and got everyone pumped. But after last night and seeing Super Mash Bros last year, I’ve realized that mashup artists just don’t do it as well as DJs while performing live. He stuck mostly to his popular mashes and just linked them with a cross fader and occasionally played with the EQ. Nothing unexpected, but nothing other than great time. It seem’s like he’s on his way to becoming the top mashup artist out there, and he’s also a really nice guy, so check him out and download Kap Slap.
