The Pregame Handbook

15 Nov

It’s not a pregame unless there’s music. Playing the proper music at your pregame isn’t about having one good playlist, it’s about to catering to the crowd and the occasion you’re drinking for. Here’s a mini-playlist for your different types of friends and helping them get from a to b (where b may be drunkland or cloud9). Hopefully these songs keep your friends’ paws off your iPod/laptop.

There’s a lot of mash-ups and I’ve tried not to include any songs I’ve already posted. (Downloads are in batches when size limit allowed). Enjoy.

Summer Days in Oz

23 Oct

After being locked in my room writing essays for the past two weeks, I’ve emerged from my den and realized that spring’s in full bloom here in Sydney. It’s 30 degrees (Celsius) and sunny today, feels a bit like summer.

This is a funny song from Pez, one of the few hip-hop artists in Australia. It’s an Asher Roth-style anthem about music festivals, hanging with friends, and the laid-back Aussie lifestyle. Enjoy

The End of Original Music?

31 Oct

This song scared me. Will we reach a time where we’e exhausted all original music, used up all the delightful melodies and beats. Used all the notes within our range of hearing. Will my kids only know music that’s a remix or mashup? Probably not. But its not out of the question.

The number of samples used in “original” pieces these days is becoming scary. Yes, you can argue that all artists are inspired by each other and it requires creativity to add your own twist BLAH blah, but in this song Lupe took it pretty far and literally raped and pillaged Modest Mouse’s “Float On”. It’s acceptable when a sampling/cover is put on an EP or something on the side, but this will be on Lupe’s upcoming studio album Lasers…. Can’t deny that I like it though.

Through all of the devilish things we do

15 Oct

I think it’s awesome that British musician Just Jack went to school for Furniture Design.

Here’s the Phillip Martell remix, featuring Wale. Wale certainly ingrains the message that “girls never give it up on the first night,” but to be fair, this made the song stuck in my head for days.
