Till Death

4 Jun

I could listen to this forever. Intense but simple and dreamy. It’s my goal this summer to make a surf edit with this song.

The Vermont Post: Stevie Wonder, Teen Daze, and Portugal. The Man.

12 Jan

Spent a week partying in Burlington which consisted of a lot of loud music and dance parties. The music of choice at my friends house was funk-  surprisingly fun and a needed break from electronic. I forgot to grab Robin’s playlist, but here’s an example:

Coincidentally, while I was there I found Teen Daze’s new song- “Let’s Groove”

I was also introduced to Portugal. The Man, an  Alaskan/Oregonian indie rock group.

The Pregame Handbook

15 Nov

It’s not a pregame unless there’s music. Playing the proper music at your pregame isn’t about having one good playlist, it’s about to catering to the crowd and the occasion you’re drinking for. Here’s a mini-playlist for your different types of friends and helping them get from a to b (where b may be drunkland or cloud9). Hopefully these songs keep your friends’ paws off your iPod/laptop.

There’s a lot of mash-ups and I’ve tried not to include any songs I’ve already posted. (Downloads are in batches when size limit allowed). Enjoy.

2 for 1 Tuesday

5 Sep

In the unlikely case you like one, you’ll likely like the other. What both of these producers have in common is that they have made some freakishly inconsistent stuff, though consistently experimental. The Noise-rock band HEALTH does a cover of a song from the sample-happy Pictureplane, and Blood Diamonds depart from their tropical flavor in “Heart” towards a soundscape by the likes of  M83/Animal Collective… hmm…

The question is, do you really need 2 songs, or is this a marketing scheme to convince you that NEED 2, when only 1 is sufficient. But the fact that the songs are free makes this irrelevant, and it is in fact merely a choice to download not just 1, but 2 songs. Now, faced with 2 choices as opposed to 1, you are more likely to download neither according to the paradox of choice theory. So no, this is not a marketing scheme, and no I will probably not do another 2 for 1 next Tuesday, or ever again.

Naked and Famous

You should have already heard of this group. These New Zealander’s came out hits like “Young Blood” and “Punching in a Dream” I posted over a year ago with their debut album. Here’s another song I didn’t catch on to until just now, its the last one on the album. See them at Park Life next month in Sydney.

“Mouthful of Diamonds” became one of my songs-of-the-summer awhile back. 8 months later I still love it. Phantogram is an electro-rock due from Saratoga Springs, NY. They are beginning to show up at festivals/colleges, hopefully I’ll be able to see them soon.

New Album from Kings of Leon

11 Oct

Come Around Sundown, Kings of Leon’s new album is set to release October 19th. The single “Radioactive” from the album was released last month on the bands website. Overall the album is decent, but I don’t think they’ve done anything too new, sounds alot like their old stuff. Here’s “Pyro”.
